They can usually go far out of band, but the milage varies radio to radio. Some have been able to get a 450-470 radio up to the 500's, and some just make it over 475. The Astro line does pretty well, but it really depends on the VCO, and no two are alike. Worse case, you will get a Fail 001 on the channel that won't lock.
Best thing to do, is program 5-10 channels with progressive freq's out of band such as 470, 475, 480 etc etc. That will give you an idea how far up, and then you can narrow it down.
A fail 001 is not fatal to the radio, it just tells you that the radio cannot lock on that freq.

Lowband radio. The original and non-complicated wide area interoperable communications system

This would be a question of interest with the 800Mhz radios too.Dr Mahathir wrote:How far out of band can you program an XTS3000 403-470MHz band split. Im interested in the upper limit of these radios as Im about to hack the RSS and would like to here you thoughts before I start.

How low can it go? Can I receive the repeater inputs?
