minitor 5 charger and battery question

I have gotten a brand new charger and brand new battery and when you put the pager in the charger the red light flashes, you can put the battery in the charger by itself and the same thing happens. When you turn the pager on and put it in the charger the light stays red, its just not acting the way all the rest are. Does anyone have any ideas what could cause this?
