I have an Astro Saber III VHF that is Apco 25. I don't use the digital on it at all. I use the radio for public safety use. The receive on it seems delayed. I can have a HT750 right next to my Astro, both not scanning. The HT750 will unmute audio when receiving a signal about .5 second before the Astro will. I have the unmute set to 0 in the RSS. This gets irritating some times because I miss all or part of my id number when dispatch calls for me. Any suggestions????

One side effect of the digital audio processor in the Astro is a slight delay in the transmitted and received audio. Another side effect of the digital audio processor is that it gives you GREAT transmit audio clarity and receive audio. I love these Astros! Every other HT pails in comparison to the Astro!
I have a Astro III and a HT1250 with zone 1 programmed exactly the same. Both unmute the audio at the same time here (HT750 & HT1250 are almost the same). Make sure your compairing radios with the same number of scan channels, dwell time, mute/unmute rules ets. There are tons of scan options in the RSS like Dwell time etc. Make sure these are all set properly.

JMR: Don't feel bad. In addition to my four Sabers which work the way they should, I also have a Yaesu VX-5R with the same delayed squelch opening problem which you encountered, and which a review of the radio I read says is the result of the tone/DCS decoding method used. I find it annoying, but I've gotten used to it.

Go here and check out this option in RSS. I turned it off on my radio and then it acted normally.

Its called the Rx unmute delay. Most radios that I have seen came with it programmed at 100ms. Change it to off and you should be ok.

Oops, didn't noticed that you already changed it. Have you checked the MDC options? Do you have the MDC DOS mute on, or anything of the sort? I would also suggest changing all the unmute rule options to 0 if you haven't already (if 0-0 1-0 2-0 etc).
If you want, you can email me your codeplug to the address you already have, and I will take a look and see if I notice anything.

In no particular order...
RX umute delay is intended in systems that use MDC, MODAT, or other signalling types.
Its purpose is to keep the radio muted so that the user is not being constantly bombarded by annoying databursts at the beginning of other transmissions.
ALL Astro radios are 100 percent digital. Whether your radio is fully Astro 25 digital trunking, IMBE/CAI, VSELP, or conventional analog only, EVERY signal is purely digital
from the discriminator A/D conversion to the post-D/A converter audio amplifier (receive mode) and the mic A/D converter to the digital modulator in the PA section. (transmit)
As a result, no matter what mode you're in, including analog, EVERY signal is converted to digital and processed in the digital domain. This takes a little time.
It's not a radio in the conventional sense. It's a computer hooked up to a few radio circuits.
