I have a customer that wants to receive phone calls on the XPR7550e radios. This is in simplex with no repeater. Someone told me that you can use the Zetron Model 30 the most expensive one to hook up to a base station and it will do digital. Can someone confirm this can be done or has anyone did this before??

Thanks

John

Your friend "Someone" said the user would have to connect the Zetron Model 30 directly to the base station. That's right, it won't interface with a TRBO mobile or portable radio, just to some (not every) TRBO base station. Of course your customer must also comply with the FCC Rules for operating a private telephone interconnect device and modify their FCC license accordingly. The user will have to always keep the portable set on the simplex channel in order for his 7550 portable to know when a call is coming in. When it does, there is no call privacy; the conversation will be heard by everyone else who has a TRBO radio on that particular simplex frequency.

John, this is what cell phones are used for every minute of every day and without all the hassles. Trying to answer telephone calls with a TRBO portable radio just is an abnormal radio environment in so many ways.
