Off hand I can't remember a scanner model? maybe someone else will.. Kennwood made an HT that read the tone? If your looking for a tone reader? Try Optoelectronics.com Or Ramsey, Hamtronics....(there not cheap) Ed

There is a cool program you can get called procomm that works with your computer interfaced to a realistic pro 2005 or pro2006 scanner. It is so great to play with. Scan time of upto 30 channels/sec. It will display any DTMF, or pl on the frequency as well. The best part is that when you unplug the computer, the scanner remains with whatever you originally had programmed into it. A great investment!

The Uniden BC780 (mobile) and BC895 both will decode and display the PL/CTCSS tones. The 780 will also display and decode DPL codes. Both of these are a little slow since they essentially step through the PL tones until they find one that matches. The 780 is the most capable but also the most expensive (around $350).
Also, the Radio Shack/GRE PRO-2067 (mobile) and PRO-92 (handheld) can decode and display the PL and DPL codes. They are very fast in decoding but in my opinion they are poor scanners. Especially weak in monitoring trunking systems.
I think there may be a few others out there that also do PL as well as a few amateur radios that will do it and receive public safety freqs.

I see John has it right on the money! Looks like the mobile 780xlt is a good one..I see a sale price of $335. I don't see those the ctcss read, in the bc895? but that can just be that its not on the website! Do a search for Uniden/Bearcat scanners...check the specs.! & prices! I would go with the 780...seems like John knows his stuff! way to go! Ed

I have the Radioshack Pro 2067 and I can't get it to show PLs and I really think it is a better doorstop than a scanner. When trunk tracking I miss most of the trans and the system is only about 2 miles away.
