Is there any rhyme or reason?

Trying to hunt down some talkgroup info on a local system. The ID's seem to be all over the place

0634
04AE
0805
etc.

Is there any organization to how they begin and end in a astro 36k system? Or where one would insert certain talkgroups, etc? Of course, I've looked at talkgroups close to the ones above that i mentioned. I know I need to get trunker up and running, but in the meantime thought I'd try to learn something about how systems are organized.

Well, some of it's system dependent, and the rest is administrator dependent. There are certain blocks of talkgroup IDs which are defined as either "analog" or "digital" upon system installation. I'm not sure where the divisions must be made, but there can be several different blocks of both. So, an agency with a mixture of digital & analog talkgroups could very well appear to have them spread out all over the place, especially if more talkgroups were added to their radios after the initial programming. Other talkgroups which may have been closer may have already been taken & used for someone else in the meantime.
Otherwise, if an agency has all digital or all analog talkgroups, the procedure seems to be to have them all grouped logically together, using every second talkgroup ID (003,005,007, etc). Again, if they add talkgroups later, they will likely come from a different block of IDs.

Just to add another question to this thread...

Does anyone know where analog and digital begins, or does this vary from system to system?
