OK, before the thread gets out of hand, I'll say that A) I agree, and B) we need a LOT more information regarding what you have and what you want to accomplish.
IF you don't know what your doing with this stuff it's more cost AND time effective for you to go and purchase a Uniden Scanner. If you need digital, any day now the new scanners are supposed to be out. It'll cost you less than the radio you more than likly just got.
I would hold your water for a couple of days and wait for the scanner. You can do some reading on Lindsy's Turnking site:
http://www.trunkedradio.net - and also search here.
I will issue a word of caution. People on this board aren't in the business of telling people how to add radios to public safety systems, espically when you have someone who comes off as not really knowing what they are doing. I would URGE you strongly to construct your questions throughly, and with the knoledge and understanding of what you are going to undertake.

Well, the Uniden scanner doesn't need the system key. The system keys that Motorola use are just files that let the programmer of a trunked radio program info for that particular system. You will not be able to get a system key for that system that you want to listen to. Those keys are protected very well, because if you have the key, you can get onto the system and transmit or whatever else. Each key is only valid for a particular system. As Alex said earlier, you'd be better off waiting for the Uniden scanner to come out. Even if you did happen to come across the key (which more than likely will never happen), you'd still have to deal with all of the issues of programming a Motorola radio that would NOT be worth the risk of turning your radio into a paper weight.
I think it will be hard to mess up a scanner just by pressing a wrong button, but it's VERY easy with Motorola radio, especially the newer high tier radios.
Hope this helps...

In short, the only way to get the radio programmed would be from the State Police. Essentially they are the only one's with the system key.
Yes there is a way around it, but if you mess up just one "bit", you will now have a large repair bill to get it fixed, and you still will be where you started.
thanks

Pardon the flame, but if you knew how to program radios, then you'd know the other 'method'...

Are you talking about an IMBE APCO-25 system (Astro) or the old SecureNet type thing? Either way, I don't think you're going to accomplish whatever it is your trying to do.
????????

You keep calling them "Code Keys" . They are not called code keys it is called a Network ID's for the IMBE Digital radio system.

Hang on, let me get my "code book" out
On the serious side, once you get your digital radio up and running, you should enjoy it. I had an astro saber UHF, but never got around to programming any digital channels in the radio, then, 4 weeks later, sold it
Anyone got an astro saber III they want to part with?

Okay, let's cut to the chase some more;
The NH system is VHF and digital, it is not a trunked system. They just kept the same frequencies and went digital. (From what I've heard).
The Mass system is a /\/\ 800 trunked analog system, readily scannable and trunkable with all trunking scanners out there. The signal penetration statewide is very good.
From what I know the Vt system is conventional UHF.
In other words, 1 2-way radio will not do the trick. 1 scanner will (if the NH system isn't 9600n baud or whatever).
The only other digital systems in central-northern New England that I know of are the Ct. SP, Nashua NH 800 trunked system, and the Devens Mass Federal Correctional facility.
Hope this clears up some more.
ok

And its not even April............
There is this one other person who frequents this board with
hundreds of posts with questions just like yours.
The key to getting the answer you are looking for depends mostly
on just asking the question. But the question has to at least make
some kind of sense.

Ok, First off I have to say that this is the most calm posting like this I have ever seen. It usally get's pretty ugly.
There is a lot of information you are leaving out. What is the name of the system you are looking for. Not the name you are giving it, But the name that it is accually lincensed under? From the information in the TRS database, there is only 3 systems in NH only one of which is Motorola.
System Name: Nashua Public Safety
Location: Nashua, NH
County: Hillsborough
System Type: Motorola ASTRO 3600 baud
Sysid: ****
Type: APCO-25
I'm going to let you do your own reasearch for the System ID. A search on "State Police" only turned up a bunch in IN, IL, KY, and MA. no NH.
So with that in mind. We need more information if we are going to help you, If in fact we even help you more than we already have. A Frequency for the control channel might help, the proper name, and maybe some other stuff. Another problem your going to run into is after you find out what the System/Network ID is you are going to make a SysKey file. Good luck getting someone here to make you one. The information is out there but it's not easy.
The last thing I have to say is. Make sure of your Frequencies, They could have stayed the same exact way but only changed to ASTRO. Did you get the right Frequency of XTS is it Flashed right for the system, and I really think it would be well worth your time and money to get a Uniden Scanner and resale or return your XTS. If all of the hurddles are finally jumped by you. I really would not feel comfortable working in NH. I'm not a very big fan of people hacking into Public safety Systems and possably causing problems. I'm not saying that you will cause any problems but if you are into the system then there is that posibility of accedentaly transmitting.
I just realized that after I wrote this whole long thing I accually had something to say about the quote. Trunking is not something you can or can not do. If it is a trunked system then you are using trunking radio's. how can you not Trunk on a trunked system??

I really think you would benefit from selling the radio and buying a 785-D scanner & IMBE card.
