I am looking around for an HT600/MT1000 for use as my personal radio in my volunteer fire department. I need at least six channels, so the HT600 would work OK. However, I need to know if the HT600 (6 ch) or MT1000 (8 ch) models support scanning and/or Quik Call II decode for selective calling. Thanks a lot!!

Also I forgot to ask -- will either the HT600/MT1000 do MDC or GEStar digital IDs?
Thanks again.

I've never played with a HT600, so I don't know much about the differences in features between that and the MT1000. With the proper front cover, the MT1000 is capable of transmitting a MDC600, MDC1200, or GE STAR unit on PTT and emergency. The MT1000 will allow for either three or four (I don't remember, but I think it's 3) tones for a QCII decode. The MT1000 is also capable of scanning eight channels, whereas the HT600 is not. Hope this helps.

I'm sorry for all the questions -- this is one of the radios I know little about. Is there an easy way to determine what front is on the radio (do you have to read it into the RSS?) Are the different fronts availible from Motorola (or anywhere) and how expensive are they? Thanks a lot.

Motorola has end-of-lifed the Genesis series (MT1000, P200, HT600, etc) except for the lowband radios. And even those are no longer in production, but limited swupport is still available. A front cover with the orange emergency button on the top is capable of at least MDC signalling. Most revs should also be available of GE STAR. I don't have a support manual to know for sure which ones are, so I'm flying by memory. Your best bet would be to either buy a radio with the frontcover already on, or contact someone who deals heavily in used Motorola gear. Genesis parts are pretty much a staple of any repair shop because MT1000/HT600/P200 was probably one of the sturdiest radios ever built, running second only to the Saber line.

On the HT600 (P200). It doesn't support scan on vhf and uhf as Bob has stated. It will do quick call decoding, but then is only capable of one pl and one dpl. They give choices as far as signaling.
Mode A. 1pl 1dpl 1qcII
Mode B. 2pl 2dpl
Mode C. 3pl 1dpl
Mode D. 1pl 3dpl
Have not seen a factory mdc1200 front for a HT600 or P200.

The signalling front cover for the MT1000 costs $326 from Motorola. But they are no longer in production so what they have left is all they got. No more will be made.

the ht600 will not do and mdc options, the ht600 also will not do any scaning of the programed channels.
the ht600 will do quick call 2.
