Hello I built a little circuit with a max232 and a 7407 to program
the gp300 it worked a few times but then the max232 failed I replaced it
and same thing again! Any Idea's whats causing this problem?

HI:

Its very possible you may have a very poor programming
platform.

You should make sure your Computer is a good 386-486-25,
and the RSS is not corrupted, its also possible the radio now
be disabled to.

Also, make sure you are NOT operating from within a
Windows OS !

Many times its trully stressed to have a Stable Computer
Program Platform, and the use of a Motorola Rib Box and
Program adaptor will insure years of good performance.

The use of Nip Clips, wires, Clones, and or Low battery, well,
that can spell death for most Motorola products.

MS

Thanks

Thanks Monty you have answered my question I will have to regroup here and try it another way!

Not that Monty doesn't have some good points on computer issues, it doesn't directly answer your question about the IC failing. You may want to go look at the specs for the level converter.

1. Are you operating it within the voltage ratings

2. Do you have a regulated and filtered power source

3. By any chance is the programing voltage level in or out beyond the specs

4. Do you have a common ground between computer, radio and power source

5. Make sure you ground yourself before connecting anything up. Static this time of year can generate several thousand volts from just walking across the rug.

These are just a couple of simple thoughts that may help.

Jim

Thanks Again

Thanks again for the info I will check on these suggestions I used the schematic available here on Batlabs.

hi steve

If you use the Rib-ivg, well you must change the resistor values of the DEL. The original value is 680 ohms.
For my expericence, this rib run well with the new values are for the Power DEL is 1K ohms and for the bus+ DEL is 1.5k ohms
I thinks the ALL DEL ask more current and the signal bus+ to the max232 or 7407 is not in the good voltage rating.
You can try another values as you want.
