I have a xts3000 uhf 450-527mhz and would like to get the radio upgraded to the newest dsp/firm. what if any problems are there sending the unit to motorola? or is there any other way of getting this done?

As anything in life it's a crap shoot.

You might get it back with a serial number assigned to it...or it'll be sent back with a letter telling you to keep dreaming and to make sure to share the drugs with your friends.

I know when the ht1250 radios first came out i was building them from parts with no stickers. and sending them in with no problems. but have no clue what the big "M" is doing with these radios.

I am curious as to what they will say...try it....umm...at your own risk. Why do you want to upgrade anyway?

i have been told that dsp/firm is bad. thats all. radio is working fine but sometimes has problems reading code plud keeps telling me about "assigned data member wrong. unpack anyway" something to that effect.

What is the host/DSP version?

yOU will not ahve a problem sending it in, if it comes in under a public safety agency's name. THROUGH your dealer.
I've done it with 3 radios, ALWAYS got the requried work done.

WAs done with 2 parts built radios and a factory radio that was hacked and no hassle. EXCEPT the first time that the factory radio was sent in and was given the run around about what specific division was to handle the "repair" of the unit.
My dealer took care of that real quick.

Unless there is a specific problem with the radio's firmware, sending it in to M for just a firmware upgrade will cost $800-$900...at least for a AS3. This was what the fax from M stated when I inquired about a year ago.

The only other way around this high cost that I can think of, is flat rate. However, you better be able to prove your flashcode if there are no stickers. With the "restricted" flashcodes, they will only send it back as a barebones radio unless you can prove your feature set (if no sticker or codeplug on disk).

This also does not guarentee that you will get the most recent firmware. I have seen radios come back with verisons less then what they had in it. They usually only but in the firmware verisons needed to run the feature set. If you purchase an option that requires a higher firmware verison, the flashupgrade will upgrade the firmware.
