I tried to program my HT750 with a home made RIB-Less programming cable (without using the Boot Ctrl signal). It didn't work at all and I read a couple of posts on this forum an I realised that I still need a RIB. Not using a RIB could damage the radio?
The radio still appear to work as before. Is there any risk that some vital parts needed to program the radio in the future have been damaged? Or would the radio self test complain if something were wrong?

Hi:
1. Please make sure you have a Stable program platform
BEFORE making any changes to your radio !
The HT750's / 1250's / 1550's are much more sensitive
to code plug corruptions than earlier Motorola Radios so
use caution on Home Brew Stuff.
Failure to do that could kill your radio and be VERY COSTLY
to repair.
Anyhow, so long as you have a Stable Rib Box ( Motorola Prefered )
and a Known good program Cable, and Computer with the proper
SW, you should be OK.
With the Proper Rib Box, Cable Configuration, try READING the
radio a few times. If you can READ the radio, you should be able
to WRITE to it OK.
I do have the Proper Hardware for your radio if you wish
to stick with the Motorola Set ups.
The [ proper ] Software for your radio can ONLY be obtained
through Motorola.

Ok, thanks. I will look in to getting some real equipment.
But the questiohn still remain, how do I know if something have been damaged?
No point in getting expensive programming equipment if the radio is allrady dead.

when turned on, chances are 95% the radio is OK.
2. Take your Radio to someone that has the Proper
Program hardware, and have them check it.
3. Or you can send it to Motorola, and have them varify
( and Upgrade ) whatever Firmware is in your radio.
4. Or if you want to go to the trouble, you can send
it into our shop, we will check it out for free.
Other than the above, witout the Proper Progam Platform,
you will not be able to address anything about the Read / Write
Process of the radio.
So long as you have not tried to [ WRITE ] to the code plug
nothing should have occured.
On some VERY rare cases, I have seen a few Radios Damaged
by [ Poorly Made Program Cables ] and Shorted Rib Boxes, but
its more the exception than the rule.
In all 3 cases, I was able to restore them all with my test

Value if you do not want to fool with restoring
Anytime you have more than just ( 1 ) beep on Power
Up could mean major trouble, However, if you have a
image of the [ Original ] Code Plug, seek someone
out in your area with the [ Proper ] program platfom

Other than myself, a few others, and the Factory, you
may be SOL if you get a combination of beeps out of the
radio at anyone time and need the radio restored.

When powered up I hear a high pitch tone and the LED is green for a second or two. Everything okey...
When releasing the PTT I hear two low pitch tones. This is repeated a couple of times before the radio is quiet again. Also the LED is red for a few seconds before it start to flash.
The two low pitch tones have now begun to appear when listening on an active channel. Is it a battery warning? The batteries have almost full charge. When changing to a newly charged battery I don't hear the tones.
I am under the impression that two low pitch tones indicate problems with the power amp (PA). This doesn't make sense to me...
