Consoles

I am an individual who is seeking a console in which to mount mobile radio equipment. I guess what I really need is a retail dealer who will sell me, an individual not associated with any company, what I want directly, preferably via the web.
I have read the many posts here on the subject of consoles, as well as visiting the web sites for many of the major console manufacturers, and it’s very clear that they aren’t set up to sell directly to individuals. Someone posted that Stewart Products would do direct factory sales. Maybe they will, but what they won’t do is return phone calls or answer e-mails. I can’t even get console dimensions or pricing information. The closest I can come right now is Gall’s, but I don’t particularly like their selections.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The console companies out there are....
Gambler Johnson (you can get some of their stuff on Sirennet.com)
Stewart Products
http://www.stewartproducts.com
Havis Shields
http://www.havis.com
Jotto Desk
http://www.jottodesk.com (FYI I just had a not so good exerience with them. If you want PM me for details)
Those are the ones that I could think of off the top of my head but I'm sure there are others....
Me personally since they don't make consoles for the Lumina specifically I am in the process of building my own. Pictures of which will eventually make it to the "Vehicle Installs" section.

Consoles for a vehicle or consoles for desktop mounting?

For a 2002 Ford F-150 w/ factory console. Only about 12" of room between the front of the console and the dash.

Most of the companies above and
http://www.gamberjohnson.com sell thru distrubtors. Many will also take phone calls from you and help out in getting the right parts. Also you should be able to get on the website and find the closest distrubitor. Shop around for the best price. When I was looking for one, prices went everywhere. When you do get all your part numbers for whoever you decide to get, try out
http://www.sirennet.net or .com and they are very competitive.

I would get the Havis Shields C 800 -11D. I am putting these in our new SUV's and Pickups. They are inexpensive and decent quality.

The Havis Shield C 800-11D is what I have my eye on, as I believe it will fit in my truck, it's not too big, etc.
Do these use the one piece C series faceplates, and, most importantly, where can I buy them?

The equipment brackets are equipment specific or there are generic brackets available (make sure you measure your equipment well). Most commercial radios are supported. The console includes up to three brackets and or spacers. Public Safety Central in Tampa is a Havis Dealer. Thier website is
http://www.public-safety-equip.com. The Havis Shields price list in .pdf format has the info you will need to get the part numbers you need. The console should fit you will need to remove your heater duct to get a good mount. All of our fleet has split bench seats so I'm uncertain if the factroy console will interfere. If this is your first install take your time and heed the advice posted before on the board ( 4ga wire, ATO fuse block, 100A relay, etc.) This will ensure a lifetime of service and prevent a lot of frustration later.

We now use Havis Shields Exclusively and have become a dealer for them. You can't beat the price v/s quality. Prices are competive with GALLs and but I hate their consoles. Simply put, they are a PIA to install and an even bigger one to service after the fact.
We've also used Gamber J, Quality is Excellent as well, but quite pricey. Also tough for us to become a dealer so we went with Havis.

Havis-Shields is a stone's throw from me. It's amazing how they've grown over the years. I remember back when I used to pick up warning lights and parts from them back in the 80's, when they were a handful of folks working out of a converted auto shop. Now they are in a huge custom-built manufacturing and installation facility. It's not unusual to see tons of new vehicles in their storage yard waiting for outfitting.
HIGHLY RECOMENDED PRODUCT:

Troy Consoles - NEW MC Console Line - CODEREDSECURITY.COM

Troy products recently released a new line of consoles called the MC line. These consoles feature a sloped upper area for greater visibility, and the rest of the console is flat.
These consoles would work great in a truck or SUV and they can accomodate up to 22" of faceplates. Nothing looks more organized and professional than a troy console.
I have these consoles available ONLINE using a credit card through PayPal (
http://www.coderedsecurity.com). Please do not hesitate to contact me for more information.
Thanks,
John Mesich
