Another Spectra problem/question

Post by Josh »

I've got the Spectra all programmed and it is working great. Sensitivity is about the same as the Maxtrac800 (much to my surprise) Boy, 800Mhz trunking scanners suck on sensitivity.

At any rate, an option popped up for radio ID display. I set it to 'enabled' but I don't see anything on the display.

Is there anything else I have to do in order to get the IDs to come up on the display?

A laymans answer from me would be that we purchased Spectras (and MTSX2K's) in '96. They never displayed the id's.

As we are sending them to depot from time to time to be repaired and they come back with the latest software, they now display the id's. (Only for a second, then the display changes back to the talkgroup. You gotta be really quick to read all those numbers)

According to my Spectra RSS Manual (RVN-4001N) it says the id's will only work on Type II systems.

I understand in the RSS you can enter a Alpha/Numeric Id for each radio, don't know how much practical use that would be unless you had radios issued to each individual. 8)

You can set the display time longer via the RSS. It is probably set for 200 - 500MS or .2 to .5 seconds.

Well, if the trunking model won't do it, what are the odds of me locating a conventional Spectra radio (VHF/UHF) that can decode MDC1200?

Not likely. A conventional spectra will decode call MDC1200 pages and call alerts. To decode and display MDC1200 PTTID, you'll need a CDM1250/1550, an MCS2000, or an Astro Spectra. If you want to do aliasing, you're better off with a CDM. The Astro Spectra doesn't do it, and the MCS2000 is limited to under 20 aliases.

I thought they made Spectra control stations capable of signalling MDC1200 to other radios. If that's not the case, then I'll have to go with a GM300!

So......I'm having the same problem as described in this older post.

I have an 800MHz Spectra (D35...C5) with MLM v6.15 which I thought was the last one released.

I enabled the

INDIV_ID_DISPLAY and
TALKGRP_CHAN_DISP

in the trunking personalities, yet I get no sort of display when receiving transmissions?

Any ideas?

The only 800mhz spectras I have ever seen that actually displayed the TG and Radio IDs were Smartzone E7's with v8.XX MLM. None of the B/C units worked, even with the highest 6.X MLMs.

The display will also work with:
R03.xx/EE103
R05.24/EE104
MLMs. Standard B/C stuff.
