Does anyone know what exactly is different between the XTS3000 and XTS3000R on the housing?

I have a plain old XTS3000, however to make it different from the 'other radios', I made purchase on an XTS3000R sticker (a rip off at $3.60) to replace the plain XTS3000 sticker (which needed to be done anyway because the old sticker was damaged on the radio).

At any rate, the XTS3000R sticker is smaller than the XTS3000 sticker, meaning that the radio grill on the real XTS3000R is of different design proportions.

Does anyone have a good image of an XTS3000 and an XTS3000R standing side by side? I've seen some of the images google brings in and they're all crapola.

The R version is a totally different case, take your present radio with R sticker on it and drop it in a bucket of water and see if it transmits and receives after this test. The R versions are submersible, they have a limited keypad, vacuum port seal for evacuating the air in the housing, seals on the display, a battery plate seal, etc all made to keep water and other liquids out.
If you purchase the parts Direct from Motorola expect to pay a lot , I havent checked lately but as I remember the cost is about a grand for the new case and all the parts to make the radio into a R version. Then of course you need the proper equipment to evacuate the air from the radio once it is all assembled and even more equipment to test the submersibility of it. If I remember correctly if you have a model III full keypad it cannot be made into a R version, I think only models I and IIs. By this I mean that you could change a model III into a R radio but you get a limited keypad radio after the conversion. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong on this.

When you take the batteries off you can see the port on the frame they use for pressurizing them.

If you have a Watchbuddy 3X00R radio, I wouldn't try the submergence test.

No, mine is not a Watchbuddy radio, although that was an available option at the time.

Mine is a plain XTS3000 that I simply bought a new sticker for, and after seeing that the new sticker was about 1/8" smaller on all sides made me wonder why.

Motorola redesigned the front housing for the XTS radios, that's why the label is smaller in size.

I had the same problem happen to me, I had to call their Florida plantation to get the original part number for the old label so that it would fit my housing.

I'm glad I did, Parts department said they had a few of the old labels left at that time.

Here is the part number for the old XTS3500 LABEL if anyone is interested.

Man oh man. What had to be redisigned? They all appear the same to me, except for the sticker on the front.

My radio was a August 2001 build (less than 2 years old) when did the change occur?

What about an Astro Saber R sticker. I need one for my IIR Astro. That empty void drives me insane.

The part # for the front label on the XTS3000 is 3305573Z01. Cost was around AU$ 14.00.

Hey Guys,

Motorola redesigned the housings in late 2001 early 2002 due to a water leak concern.

This is why the new Labels don't fit on the old Housings that most of us have.

I don't know the part number for the front Label on the XTS3000, it would probably be in the older service manual if anyone has one.

Call Parts ID and tell them you need the proper Labels for the old XTS3000/3500 housing.

The Florida Plantation would be next place to call if all else fails.

Which sticker version is that of the newer housing style.

A: The XTS3000 that uses the smaller sticker
B: The XTS3000 that uses the larger, curved along the top, sticker?

I bought a "new" housing off of eBay, and indeed my XTS3000R sticker fits right in but, the sticker inside shows a 1998 date. The radio uses the smaller sticker.

The original radio housing had no internal date, however, the radio was built in August of 2001.
