I have a w3 astro spectra with a major problem. The radio tx and rx in analogue perfect but will not tx in imbe mode, rx is perfect but tx is so bad it wont open the rx of any radio within the room.

Some details, When on the monitor and using the service manual the radio is fully aligned to factory spec's. the test function (within rss) lets you tx using v5.4 (something like that) and other formats all sound perfect and loud but when you try to tx out of the service mode it gives a carrier with the imbe "sound" but is so low you can just hear it (monitored with a non digital radio)

Anyone have any ideas ?

Mike

also this is a brand new radio and has just been flashed with IMBE.

I'm assuming that the network ID's are the same with both radio's? Also, have you tried Digital CSQ on both radios?

Sounds strange if everything is alinged. Only thing I can thing of is that a couple of the settings between both radios may be off.

Are you trying to transmit out of band?? If so you need to change two chip resistors on the vocoder board then realign the radio. (example: 440 amateur with 450-482 radio). The soft pots do not maintain settings for out of band frequencies.

Second, you MUST perform the mod comp alignment AND the deviation alignment. If the mod comp is off the receiving radio will not decode the IMBE. Overall IMBE deviation should be about 3.5 kHz when viewed on an analog service monitor.

Thanks for your help guys. I put in a 162 mhz channel and the radio started talking as it should.
