Ok, while temporarily installing my radio in my 1989 Toyota Camry, my ignition control cable, which was fused , grounded and smoked. Now I have no acc. like am/fm radio, dash controls, cig-lighter. The only way I can start the engine is to manually do it with a external start switch under the hood. I have pulled and checked every fuse, and reset every breaker, with no change. The battery has full charge, so it isnt that. If anyone can offer any help, I would appreciate it a whole lot, I need to get this vehicle back on the road as quickly as possible. Thanks in advance.

Check your relays too, you could have fried one of those.

Check the fusable links (or other fuses) in the engine compartment.

It sounds like multiple things were running from the same source
you tapped into judging by the fact that you can no longer start the
vehicle with the key, and need to hotwire it. This is usually a fuseable link.
The Camry does have some larger plastic (like everything else in that car) fuses in the relay box in the engine compartment. check
those.


Still can't find it? Then start tracing the wire you tapped into, and
find out where it goes, and there will be your blown fuse or fuse-
link or switch/whatever.

The fastest and proper way of doing this would be to use a signal
injector/signal tracer.

I got the above, and lucky for you I got two 89 Camry's up at the
shop right now, so if you don't find it soon maybe tomarrow I could
take a ride up there and buzz it out for you, and tell you whats
wrong.

I am fairly familiar with Jap cars, and it won't take more than a
minuite or so. Tell me what color wire, and the stripe color, and
Exactly where in the car you tapped into it. I may simply be able to
find it in the electrical manual for that car.

Check the "cube" fuses in the underhood panel.

Me and my friend pulled out the battery on the vehicle, and the fuse link box above the positive post. While removing this unit my friend said he saw a burnt wire. Ta Da!! Fuseable Link Wire, that luckily burned itself before the WHOLE electrical system. If anyone has this problem too, email me or PM me and I would be happy to help.
