Systems Saber Hardware question.........

Are the front panel boards (above the speaker) the same between a VHF and UHF Systems Saber 1? I have a UHF Systems Saber 1 and was wondering if all I need is just a main motherboard and the necessary VHF modules to convert it to VHF?

On the same topic are the Mother boards the same between a Systems Saber 1 and 3? Not having any service manuals here I have no idea. I know the regular saber is quite flexible in that regard.

Thanks for any input......

yes, sorta.

the controller revision in the systems saber and use of the RSS allow re-blowing the controller to a different bandsplit.

the motherboards are the same.

all you need to do is read the radio and determine which CON you have (con 6 and 7 are the most common) and then create a new codeplug with a different bandsplit, change all the modules, Then blow the new codeplug with the different band into the radio.

just don't try to raise your CON - if you start with a CON 4, you have to finish with a CON 4 --- no "upgrades" to CON will work -

Appreciate that info!

I have been waiting for a VHF Systems Saber 1 to pop up but have not been lucky.

Looks like it will be a piece together version for now with the information you gave me.

I have everything here except for the Motherboard.

Thanks again,

i dont think that the vhf and the uhf can be changed except for the plastic housing , des modules, frame , the chrystal osclator ?? but that 's about it ..

the front panel has a diffrent number between the vhf and uhf. the mother board is totally diffrent .. it wont even accecpt the modules for the receiver , pa. , or anything else ..

the modules between the regular saber and the syssaber ( except the front shield of any model ) can be swaped .. vhf to vhf , uhf to uhf only .

you can upgrade from a saber(sys) 1 to a 3 with changing the front display and case and dumping a new codeplug in .. but you cant change a vhf to a uhf ....

i have looked into it myself.. and did it by accident ... can you say DEAD SABER ?????? .. well just needed some jumpstarting ..but still acts a little freeky when its programmed .. but if you can find a way to do it .. post it !!

One thing no one wants or needs is a dead Saber!

Specifically my two UHF Systems Saber Front Panel part numbers are NTN5934G and NTN5934H.

The VHF Systems Saber seem to be hard to come across in the plain 1 version. I don't really care for the keypad or extra bells and whistles (higher $$ of course) of the full 3 version.

i did not read the question properly --- this is correct the VHF and UHF main boards *are* different...

i read that as "change the bandsplit"

sorry

I understood when you (Batdude) specified "Bandsplit" when referencing the motherboard swap.

I tried to be specific here as possible. It is somewhat confusing even when asking the question in a detailed manner.

So it is apparent from what you guys are saying that the front face panel is indeed different from the VHF to UHF model on the Systems Saber 1. Just what I did not want to hear

Oh well guess I will keep my eyes out for a VHF Systems Saber 1.

Thanks guys for keeping me from avoiding a future mistake :)

i show NTN5934* (D is the version in my book )

as/ shield,front,securenet,systems saber I ( VHF )

i also show . NTN5867* ( A is the version in my book )
as / shield,front,securenet,systems saber I ( UHF )

but the revesion of my book is 9/30/1991 ...

so i dont know if the later releases of the parts can be used in both radios..

i can only give you the info that i have on hand ... some one else may have a newer theory/maintenance manual .

now its getting really confusing .. sorry
