I think we've pretty well covered many of the comparisons between the XTS and Astro Saber portables such as

Physical Size
Recently cancelled product vs current production
firmware/flash issues
backlit vs regular buttons and display

to just list a few. We've also talked about who likes which style better.

But here is the current question. All those minor differences are just that minor. From a functionality standpoint is there anything the AS won't support that the XTS does?

Be realistic here with normal options not oddball stuff that only one or two systems in the US use.

So far the only thing I can think of is the XTS supports 9600 Baud CC ad the Astro Saber doesn't?

Anything else?

So other than being a cancelled product its the same feature for feature.

With the exception of a few button differences and display size it comes down to if you want a snap together jedi style portable on your hip or a good ole fashion Saber hangin there?

I personally like the Saber. It's a traditional style public safety radio that can double as a weapon if you need.

Damn straight. With all the unlimited technology out today, I sitll trust the good 'ole beat-down portables more than the latest fancy-dancy ones.

Both are nice units, however I like the construction of the saber. The XTS seems too much like a cheap snap together radio... (well, it is a snap together...)

I STILL HAVE A UHF SYS/SABER I WONT PART WITH BUT ONLY I CHARGER AND 1 1995 BATTERY. I WENT WITH THE XTS BECAUSE OF ALL EXTRAS I ALREADY HAVE. THERE'S MORE TO LIFE THAN BEING RUGGED. Well, for one, I am a firefighter, and went out and bought my own Saber when the department I'm with went to HT1250s. They're junk. The lcd screens are already starting to fail, the newest radio s^*%t the bed because it got wet (go figure), and for my comfort the radios are too small, easy to lose (although I have an FDNY type strap).

I also have a UHF Bendix King LPU, that has been through the wringer, out of the wringer and back through again and still works, although severely beaten.

Gimme a big 'ol clunker any day, I can always use it to vent a window...
