Visar audio problem

I have a Visar that has a peculiar audio problem that sounds like an unstable amplifier- but only in a certain range of volume settings. Below that range or above that range it sounds OK.
Has anyone encountered this and what was the cause?
I don't have the manual.

To answer your question, Nand, yes when I reduce deviation the problem occurs at a higher vol control setting. This seems to agree with your diagnosis. Now if I only had a Chipmaster. Would my hot-air gun with sutable home-made nozzle do the trick? I have a 1000W monster.

The Chipmaster is crucial for service on anything that uses OMPAC type chips. They are horribly expensive, but compared to Rockford Depot service prices, it pays for itself quickly. The one I use is literally a money machine. Gets used at least once a day.

The right amount of flux with a low wattage, low-air flow heat gun can work wonders in the right hands. I have fixed many Visars with that problem this way. We don't have a Chipmaster
...wish we did.

I also use the Ungar (Weller) heat gun in the Motorola catalog. The low-velocity airflow makes it very worth having. I use it when I need a quick reflow.
