i betcha bernie is gonna read this.... lol...

monitor is a 2014/d (secure and type II 800 trunk)

going thru the help screens in the securecomm menu, noticed a mention of an "I/O BOX" that i suppose is connected to the SECURECOMM port on the side of the monitor....

anyone have an idea the part number of this I/O box?

what does it look like, etc....

having the ability to KVL the service monitor with MY des-xl key is EXACTLY what i want to be able to do (screw the test key)

The box is RTL4200A. It's the same size and looks sorta like the RTX4005B portable test set. It has the socket for the keyloader cable and a variety of connectors to get secure signals in & out of the monitor.

The schematic sheet for it is 68P80309B16.

You wouldn't need to build the whole box if all you want to do is keyload the monitor, just make an adapter like this:

All of your questions will be answered when the mail arrives.

You will see exactly what one of those boxes looks like.

To check your freq accuracy:
find a paging system in your area that uses an atomic standard, and GPS.
Inquire what the offset freq is, and then measure it.
Note: Simulcast systems often offset sites with overlap by a few cycles
because of cancellation.

Check the DVM. All analog measuremants are refrenced to the DVM.

In case you find you cannot do that with the monitor you have, may I suggest you keep in mind the fact that the IFR 2975 will load full keySETS from a key fill device?

Is that with or without Option 12 - KVL Keyloader?

I am unclear as to the exact secure capabilities the box has without the option and what additional features the option empowers.

You need Option 12 for key loading from the key fill device - otherwise we use the standard test keys.

However, a bare 2975 will do DES with the test key, no options needed.

Option 12 gives you the same sort of key capabilites as a radio or repeater - the ability to have a key set (of multiple keys), to select the key to use on decryption based upon the ES data, and to select the key used on transmit.

what i paid for this 2014/d will have to suit me.... i'm just an individual, i don't have the corporate bux to buy the IFR....

Well, apparently you got the mail.

You will find out why I have used this box only once in the last 9 years.

You don't need it. I have many very fascinating watchmaking tools just like that. there are other ways to do the job.

You would need the toys if you were setting up a console, or secure wire line modems.

You will find that DES is much like "PL"
It works, or it dosn't.

To be sure many things effect secure transmission, but receivers, and transmitters are still serviced with analog equipment.

So, the secure function only determines if the secure function is operational in your radio under test.
There are no adjustments, other than transmitter deviation, which can be set on any analyzer.

Like I said, it works, or it dosn't.

You can use the interconnect box to load the test key into the radio under test.

In practice they would never put a secure key in a contractors test box.

The customer re-loads their key after we left.

Incedently be sure that there is always a key loaded.
For some reason the hibreds draw excessive current when not keyed.
There was a service bulletin on this.
If it keeps loosing the key, the battery should be changed.
It is a nicad soldered to the secure board. Be careful, it is a tight fit next to the trunking board.
I will look up the part number if you need it.
