I have kind of a weird problem with one of my MTX B4's. When transmitting, once in a while I will get a "bonk" tone from the radio, and am unable to transmit. Then, I dekey, then key up the radio again and it will transmit... Any ideas? I'm using it on conventional 800 mhz.
thanks,

Is it on a trunked system or straight up conventional?
if it's trunked, it's probably because the controller has decided you aren't important enough to talk.
But, since I know most of your use of the radio is conventional my guess is you might have something that has to do with a feature in the radio like don't key up when channel is busy - or something along those lines (forgive me, I got called into work to fix a problem early this morning...) Regardless, I think you get my point.
That's where I would start.
Is there any regularity to when this happens, and have you tried depressing monitor just after it happens to see what kinda channel activity you have?

It sounds like you have timeout your handheld. Set the time out timer in the conventional mode to unlimited, and things should be fine.

Alex,
We are on conventional. I will look at the Smart PTT today and the time out timer.
