HOW IS IT POSSIBLE FOR A SEEMINGLY PROPER WORKING ASTRO 3 SABER TO GO INTO SERVICE MODE OK BUT NOT DIVULGE THE FLASH? THE ONLY WAY TO GET IT IS TO READ WITH CPS.

is your radio 1 meg?
is it flashed with anything exotic, or is it a plain jane radio?
i saw this back in 1996/1997 with some of the first astro sabers ... they were similar to MTS2000's which didn't start showing flashcodes until they had been around for quite a few years

What does this Flash Code have: 840101-8F0000-4
compared to the LAPD(?) Flash (591008-4F1E00-9).
Thanks!

It wasn't until a certain HOST/DSP combination came out that extra information would be displayed in the service mode. It would be a 512k radio though

It seems to have damn near everything. It shows IMBE / Apco-25 Digital so I doubt it is 512 though I have not opened it up yet.

A 512k radio can have everything but the APCO25 9600bps Trunking in it.

There are many 512K IMBE Astro Sabers around. As was stated, the 1Meg vocon is only necessary for true APCO-25 (ie: 9600baud) operation. Later Sabers & all XTS3000 radios had 1Meg vocons before 9600baud came out, but purely because of parts pricing/availability.
