Did XTS's come in VSELP?

You could get them in VSELP, it would be rare to find one, so chances are it's IMBE. Here's a quote from Batlabs regarding how to determine which one you have:

If you want to determine whether your radio is VSELP (Vector Sum Excited Linear Prediction) or IMBE (Improved Multi-Band Excitation), look in RSS at the Astro ID number. Try changing the ID. If it will not go above 16773119, it is a VSELP. An IMBE radio will let you use anything up to ID 99999999.

You can convert a VSELP radio to IMBE if you have the version F, or G vocoder boards (1 Meg Boards) in other words any radio with a 1 meg vocoder can be converted be used for either IMBE or VSELP but not both.

I don't think VSELP is necessarily all that rare in an XTS 3000. When the radio was introduced in 1996, ASTRO (e.g., VSELP) was pushed very hard by Direct Sales, and CAI had not yet been universally/widely blessed as the de facto standard. We purchased a few VSELP XTS 3000's with 1 Meg boards at that time. Perhaps you are thinking of eBay Nick, who would probably not build a VSELP XTS 3000, but then again you're talking about a new radio in that situation, where I agree that new XTS's will virtually all be ASTRO25/IMBE.

Basically I meant anyone who is using a VSELP XTS3000 on a VSELP system would be hanging on to it, since other radio models will not work on their system. Very few used units to be found, I would think.

Very true, Todd. VSELP is now all but dead in terms of new radios. Motorola has killed VSELP as an option on new ASTRO infrastructure and subscriber gear since June 30, 2003. Looks like the few big cities (4 of them?) on VSELP will be buying a ton of Q806/G806 VSELP to CAI FLASHport kits!

Vslep is not dead. It found a home in Next-HELL radios.

I did the test with Astro ID number and I didn´t let me put a number above 16773119, therefore the radio use VSELP vocoder.
Do I only need Q806 upgrade option to convert to IMBE ?
Can I see version vocoder board using RSS ?

Thank you

I got a similar problem. I picked up an Astro Specta today and it's got a flash of 00001-000000-9. It does, however, have a 1 MEG codeplug. Anyone have any batlabs articles on how to force this thing to accept a hacked codeplug or something through lab to enable IMBE?

Thanks, Scott.
