I've been told that adaptive power is only functional on trunked systems. Because of that, I've never even tried using it on a conventional channel.

ugh, I should have known, thats usually always typical, you get all the stuff working only on trunk

I assume adaptive power control is based off the of the RSSI that is sampled from the control channel. How would you have adapative power when on a conventional channel?
There is nothing for the radio to sample for signal quality.

Yeah, that make sence, that its the RSSI.
Well, thats the thing, am not sure, never tried having it on before, and seeing if it does work.
Well, what I was reading, it says after you release the key, you have that slight hang off the repeater,, I think it takes the sample off of that not sure though.

Adaptive power does work with conventional as well as trunked. It does require the Quantar or Quantar/Astrotac for the feature to work. The infrastructure sends BER and RSSI during hangtime so that the radio knows how well it is being received by the infrastructure. When the radio is being received well, it turns down its power. If it is closer to the limits of communication or if it has not talked to the infrastructure in the last minute, the radio transmits at full power.
