Strange un-mute delay with Sys-Saber...

Well, I programmed my Systems Saber III about 15 times tonight trying to figure out what was causing it to delay unmuting the audio for about 250ms, even on modes set to CSQ. After trying everything that seemed obvious (turning off all MDC, QC-II, etc) I finally tried programming the radio as non-secure. That did the trick. It seems that if the radios (I tried this on three different systems saber III's) are set to secure capable, the radio will delay unmuting the audio for about 250ms. It is immediate if its a coded transmission it's receiving but for clear transmissions, the annoying delay is there. The strange thing is that if you lock the radio into monitor mode (even with silent monitor) it unmutes as soon as it sees a carrier. I actually USE the secure capabilities of the radios so, programming them as clear-only isn't an option.

Can someone enlighten me about any possible adjustments that can be made to reduce or eliminate this delay in unmuting the audio? It is very annoying!

Also, I beg of you folks... Can anyone tell me what "Error 20" means on a Systems Saber? On one of my radios, it displays that on powerup for about 1 second and then goes to the zone/mode display. The radio works perfectly - all functions so, I can't for the life of me figure out what it's complaining about.

I noticed the very same. I am going to try programming certain channels as clear only to see if this makes a difference at all.

Check if "Proper code detect" is Enabled. If it is, then Disable it.
That should speed up response time.

It might be normal. I don't know. It doesn't bother me though.
If you can't train the user to wait a half second before they talk, then
there may be other problems as well...

Mine does it too. I think it may be the clear mode beep. I have mine set to mute that horrible beep in clear mode but it seems to still mute the audio as if it thinks the beep is being passed.

Well, I found out that no personality on a Systems Saber may be slaved to clear like it can on a Saber. I did disable proper code detect and noticed no improvement. I will learn to live with it too I suppose.

Most of the time I use the radio to scan, and the extra un-mute time is noticable and cuts out the first word or part of it. The MDC features and multi-key functions make up for it though!

Anyone have any more ideas on the RX delay?? I've got a VHF System Saber sitting here doing the very same thing, the first syllable or thereabouts gets chopped off 90% of the time, PL or not.

(The radio is programmed as secure-enabled... have not tried programming it without secure... however, all the channels in question are programmed as CLEAR ONLY, so it shouldn't be looking for a code)

Hi
Any of you guys see this problem on regular secure sabers. I have a saber 3 vhf
that won't stop scanning on a signal ever.
When I program the radio as a clear radio there is no problem.
