806 824
I am trying to construct a portable conventional 800 mhz repeater. I was planning on using two 800mhz conventional Maxtracs. The problem I am having is that the Maxtrac will not receive 806-824mhz. For this project I need to RX 820 to 824.
Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?
Thanks

The regular 800 Maxtrac receive filters only cover the 851-870 frequency range.
Motorola did make a Maxtrac based 800 repeater called Desktrac. The RF board in the Desktrac is basically the same as the regular Maxtrac 800 RF board with different filters and some other minor component changes.
Unfortunately, the filters for the Desktrac RF board are no longer available from Motorola. The entire RF board is available from Motorola as a part, but costs almost $400, so you might find that your best option is to watch for a used 800 Desktrac repeater on ebay.
If you could find the required filters from an electronic parts distributor, you could convert a Maxtrac receiver to repeater service. This is the same basic process followed for changing filters to convert 800 and 900 Maxtracs for use on the 900 ham band.
The parts you need are Murata Gigafil # DFC3R815 or equivalent from FDK or Toyo.
You would need to:
1. Replace FL1 & FL2 with the correct range filters.
2. Blank the logic board with LAB
3. Replace the firmware with FLN6531A
4. Reinitialize as a Desktrac receiver and program as desired.
If you find a source for the filters - post it here for everyone's benefit.
