Working with some firends of mine who are with a utility agency that is running digital.
They bought some XTS5000 to try out and I had the chance to take a look at one of these "bad boys" from what I was told. (I was so so impressed but I am not fully on the digital abnd wagon yet.)
Now this company (they do not want me to use there name due to the following reason) some how crashed the system and lost all ID's in the mainframe for radios that were ID in the system.

Now of course some went missing in the few days of what do we do state and they decided to use the kill feature on the radios that went bye bye.

Now some of the radios did not really go missing, they were confused by ID's as they had 5 different people ID tracking.

Now there is one radio that when you turn it on it flashes "SELF TEST" on the screen, the screen lights up, and then the radio appears to power down. They tried swapping batteries thinking it was a dead battery or whatever but that did not seem to work.

Is it me or does it sound like this radio got caught in the cross winds and got killed over the air, and if it did how do they re-enable it????

The sad part of this whole thing is that they really do not need digital but some big shot in the util company land had a big dinner and god knows what else bought for him and was told this is what you need every one else is doing it.


Thoughts comments???? I think there screwed.

Sorry if I confused anyone by my wording. No the databse failed and corrupted out so they "killed" all the other ID's that they did not have accounted for.

They also said that since they really have no way of tracking and they do not want to re-enable all the other ID's in case one that walked is still on and may have the ability to be enabled they are trying to figure out what to do????

The system is a big mess, a very big mess. It is the equal to buying a yacht to sail down a small stream. Well they get what they pay for.

would that be like yanking out random boards in the SZ controller?

or intentionally unplugging the interconnecting T-1's?

They need to read the radio, get the individual ID. Turn the radio on in range of the system and then send the enable command to the radio.

Are they using Site Lens by chance?

Now since I do not know much about digital I would wonder if that is possible as all the radio does is show "SELF TEST" on the screen then that disappears and the display lights up but with no words on the screen and then the screen goes blank and nothing is there.

I saw this for myself so I hope that they can re-enable it. I think part of the problem is CB trucking radio dispatchers using an advance system. Nothing against CB'ers but I hear these guys and they sound like they just got pulled out of the big rig and was handed a digital radio.

Also I found out tonight that the main controller or database, well the computer with the ID's and everything was not on a UPS and was not grounded correctly (thats what they said) and they took a lighting hit and zipp zapp boom.

I guess they had a back-up drive (???) with the ID info but of course radios walked and then the ID mess began and is still going on.

I advised it was time to get a good service shop, be it Motorola or not, to take over and set-up the system so this does not happen again as well as make sure they know what to do when these radios grow legs and go a walkin'.

Man I dont know, but if you have owned an mt1000 or mt2000, those don't other radios look too hot. I mean even compared to p110 gp300..too glossy or something plus if I read correctly its a member of the spirit family? (Saw a box.) looks like SAM's clubs radios have merged with the lower midrange radius radios (p1225/sp50) with the HT750 upper eschuon plus the spirit name for all the masses ...kinda looks like a chilsled p110 or actually p1225, but the angles aren't as soft...looks like a black big gulp cup w/ a speaker grill! maybe they are fat at the top for the speaker, thin at the bottom for a halfway decent grip plus the abiliy to put em's in a cup holder! man there is just too much to laugh at in that post. No way that thing is as good as the MT1000, or even HT1000, P200, even P100/Gp300. Look, if they work, man then you got a good value, but for a 6 pack charger w/ht600's or MT1000's band of choice, even MDC capilble GP300's (UHF/VHF) for under $800, I do not see how you could even compare...its clear to me the days of those tough, professional quality, almost somewhat exclusive motorola radios are long gone. Welcome to Motorola whoring out to china with it's backlash hitting the USA and eventually a platform standardazation of both markets. I'll leave the rest to your imagination. Nuff' Said.
