Soon I will be installing a Maratrac A7 in a '94 Dodge Ram regular cab. I already have a console in it that holds a 32 Channel Maxtrac and a Standard mobile. What I need to know is what the green and orange wires do and what guage the power wires are. Does any one have any other tips on installing this radio?

Make sure that the main power wire and the green wire go to the same battery source, and are hot all the time.

The orange lead can go to switched ignition.

If you wire the orange AND green wire up to the ignition, the control head will revert to channel 1 and low volume every time you fire up the vehicle.

I can't remember the main power wire gauge, and I'm lousy at guessing. If you are familiar with the Syntor, Syntor X, Syntor X9000 family, it's about the same.

Hope that helps.

The main power is #8. Fuse at 40A with a fast-blow fuse and NEVER a circuit preaker.

Remember- smoke is not our friend

What should the green and orange wires be fused at? How many amps?

I have both orange and green wires switched with ignition without this problem. Wonder why?
