Hi all,

I am installing a radio in a volenteer fire brush truck. I am looking for the switched 12 volt line (ignition - accessory) wire color. That is, the line that is hot only when the vehicle is running or in accs position.

Does anyone know which color Ford uses these days. It is a 2003 vehicle.

Thanks!

I am guessing it is an F Series light duty, in that case use the dk. blue/lt. green wire. If you are using the F series super duty use the red/lt. green or the white/yellow.

Many thanks Haydn!

I think it is the Super-Duty as it is 4wd, gasoline as it hauls 600 gallons of water in addition to all the pumps and onboard gear. It is a BIG dual rear tire engine. I will get the model in a few minutes as the vehicle is on its way over. Will the line stand a 4 amp load?

I am sure that 4 amps won't hurt anything but as a rule I don't like putting anything other than the coil of a relay on the factory wiring.

Probe the ignition switch leads with a test light and you'll find it. You aren't going to hurt anything here, since it's all heavy wiring carrying current.
