xts 5000 info

i am a fire chief and would like to know if the xts 5000 uhf level 3 is front panel programable

The feature matrix I saw stated "VHF Only" for front panel programming.

I have heard that it is a flash option.
Something like option Q52.

Well, if it's a FlashCode option, I really don't see why it would be limited to VHF.
Even if it's not a FlashCode option, rather firmware, I don't see why it'd be limited to VHF either.

I've heard it will be out early next year for UHF. Also FPP is not compatible with trunking.

after discussing this with someone at the fed sales office -
FPP was designed for release to the wildland fire fighters....
seems as tho BK has the lock up on their requirement for a front panel programmable fire radio (that does Apco 25 digi)

Batdude has it correct. I am B/K dealer and the Forest Service demands
field programablility. I think some other models of Moto radio had that
feature but seldom found. B/K VHF and UHF are all field programable.

Yeouch....that BLM page was a busy read. Looks 90%+ of the radios submitted had flaws that didn't meet some part of the contract.
