Ok, guys I know we have talked about it numerous times, but I would like to start a website devoted to installing. If people had questions, they could email and ask, or if they didnt know where to find parts, they could ask, and I would be willing to help them.

The coolest part of this I would like to accomplish would be making a gallery of installs. It will take us as a group to compile this information. So, if you have your install on your own homepage, and would be willing to just let me link, that would be great, but if not I would be happy to host some pics and info. Please send links, or pics & information to [email protected] and I will begin building this site. It may take me a few weeks, but it should be very cool, and very helpful.

I think he means permanent hosting of installs vs most of the posts here end up removing the pics over time.

Motorolamonster... do you have the space and/or domain to host this? Would you be able to link the pictures here for people? Just as a suggestion though if each person puts everything they did together on a web page with thier pictures and descriptions on how they did things and where they got supplies from couldn't that create a nice little instructional area for people looking to create their own masterpieces.

How would you accept submitions? besides filling your e-mail with this stuff do you have a place we could FTP them? Mail you a CD?

The problem with this is that everyone that mounts an M1225 and corner strobes in their car is going to post pictures- as if anyone actually wants to see this type of installation.

Now if it were a walk-in unit with a 30' tower with Magnafire lights, antennas and camera, 8 mobiles, RF amps, MDTs, GPS, PCS, RF linked imaging camera, satellite TV, 35KW generator, crossband capability, air filtration system, microwave, coffee maker, etc., one might want to see it. I'll have pics of one of these once it's done.
The body is still being built and won't be done until about March.

I have to agree with Jim on this one. When you do as many of these systems as we put together, I personally only want to see the special stuff. It's always a learning experience to see how someone else tackles these special situations. Sometimes you find a better way to do something, and other times you learn what NOT to do......


Seriously, Motorola Monster 911, what I would suggest to you to learn the business is to see if a shop near you will let you "apprentice" , paid or unpaid. I learned a lot this way when I was in electronics school and getting into the business. Hey, I still learn something new every day. And, you will be surprised from some of the folks that you might learn from....

I sort of want to agree with Jim and Commtek, but on the other hand . . .

I used to do installs. Back in another era when cars were bigger and radios were too. (Oh, hmmmmmm . . . .) Even so, I don't consider myself an expert. I did what the contract called for at the time and that was that. What I think is good about the idea of this install only forum is that most batlabs users are NOT professionals. For me, right now, I'd love to see a Ford Ranger job. There are not a lot of them though.

So for those of us who don't do it all that often, even the simplest install can be full of ideas and clues. And for the longtime pros, every install is a chance for you to help. I think it works.

That is exactly what I want to do! I want people who have never done installs before, who want to put a radio, or strobes, or anything to be able to say "Well JayMz has a Ford F-150 and ran his power through the firewall under the hood release and bought his custom console from Jotto" (just an example)

At this point, I can accept them by email, or by snail mail in a CD. I havent yet figured out how to let someone add files to my FTP, and I dont know if I feel safe doing that because I keep other files on that server anyways. I use a dedicated email address for Batlab stuff anyways, I'm not really worried about it filling up.

Jim, I totally agree, I would have to figure out some way to combine alot of information on a vehicle to 1 or two pages. I dont want to clog up my server space with pictures of a guy who put a GM300 in and thats it. If he has it one his space, I really dont care to link, but it wont be as "high up on the list" as say a walk-in unit with a 30' tower with Magnafire lights, antennas and camera, 8 mobiles, RF amps, MDTs, GPS, PCS, RF linked imaging camera, satellite TV, 35KW generator, crossband capability, air filtration system, microwave, coffee maker, etc.,

Commtek, this isnt only for me. I want this information to be readily availible to anyone. I think its cool when someone puts pictures of their best installs on here, but they stay on the main-page for only a week or so. I want the information and pictures to be availible anytime...

I am no expert at installs, and dont claim to be. I just know this has been tried in the past and thought it would be cool to actually happen. I have no idea how it will turn out, it might be cool or it may suck, but I/we will never know until we try. I put a post on here about sending me your information with no luck, no replies. So I took it upon myself to email the first few installs I seen, and I have a list of other people to email sometime soon. I understand some of your concerns, and I appreciate all the input, all feedback counts, and it will take more than one person to step in and say "hey this wont work, or hey this will".
