I need feedback on a few things for the Impala:

Which trunk shelf works the best for the Impala? After seeing Apco25's urban warfare setup in his 'burb yesterday, and the ensuing conversation, I've decided to get a trunk shelf to make my life easier.


It needs to have a pull-out shelf that allows for 2 110w Spectra's/Orions (don't which yet) to be mounted next to each other with a Astro/FS siren in between and an FT-857 tray. Criteria are: Leaves at least 10" below it for cargo...No/few holes install.

What can you guys recommend, and what suppliers to get it from?

Second, what about the D&R FS2600 stop/reverse light flasher...anyone use one? Opinions? Price? I was thinking about it, since it has a cutoff feature. What about the D&R Impala headlight flasher....Any problems with it, Stan?

I already know to use SAE-rated belden wire, and some beefy terminals to run the power to on the shelf itself.....but I'm still crusing for a beefy fuse holder to mount for the radios. I've got the lower current stuff taken care of.

Any thoughts welcome...

What is the part number? Highest amp rating I found is 50A

As we discussed run to power taps... 1 to the front and 1 to the rear.

Run the front tap ignition switched, while splitting the rear tap into a constant 12v and ignition switched combination.


Also, through TESSCO go order some adhesive heatshrink and split loom

The Borg Warner S5056 is a 120A continuous duty solenoid that's great for power feeds.

The only headlight flasher for the Impala that is GM approved is the Sound-Off unit. The Whelen unit was once made by Sound-Off, but is their own now and isn't GM recommended. (Sorry Whelen lovers).

The backflasher can be just about anything with diode isolation, but beware- if it's a non-9c1 Impala with an OEM alarm system, you need to double-diode isolate the backup light circuit or the alarm will backfeed into the backflasher circuit when armin/disarming.

For the slide-out tray, the HAVIS Shields C3311-18 unit is made for the Impala.

For power feed protection, a TST circuit breaker or a GOOD car audio wafer fuse holder will work for you. An alternative is to solder in a section of fusible link at the power source insteead of the breaker or fuse.

As for the backflash, this is a civvie Impala with keyless entry...I'm not a retard and I know what a diode does, but why the double diodes? I'm chewing on it in my brain, but I'm drawing a blank. Could be because it's 330 am...

One goes between the backflasher and the backup light lead (stripe toward OEM backup lead)

One goes inline in the OEM backup lead toward the front of the backflasher and backup light (stripe toward the rear of the lead)

Without, you'll experience "funny" things with the alarm.

I use a 6A diode.
