I have aquired an MTX radio. Model# H01WCH4DB7AN. I know it's in the 896 range but on the face it only says MTX. It has a full keypad and the
A-B-C selet switch on top, 16 channels. Could it be an MTX8000?

Did you pull the battery off, and check the sticker on the back? Should identify it as an MTX-LS/MTX9000/MTX8000/etc.

H01WCH4DB7AN
is:
896-941MHz
1.0-3.9 Watts
Full Keypad, with display
Dual Mode Trunking (Type I, II)

They work pretty good on the 900MHz ham band, if you're into that kind of thing.

H01WCH4DB7AN belongs to the MTX9000 model family. It has 160 modes, 14-character display with full keypad. Power is 2.9 Watts, in the 896 to 941 MHz range.
It has 12.5 kHz channel spacing. Dual mode trunking, Privacy Plus ®, Expanded package.

In other words, pretty well what was mentioned in the above posts.

The above is from one of the service manuals.
