It's been a little while since I've worked with them, but it is very possible to mixed mode link Quantars.

There are two options that I'm aware of:

1: Use "Astro Modems" on the wireline cards (simpler)

2: Use V.24 interfaces on the wireline cards (cheaper)

From what I remember, the astro modems allowed one cable to link the units together for both analog and digital. The V.24 interface requires a cable for digital data and a cable for analog audio.

As far as I know, you'll need either astro modems or V.24 cards to make this happen. Both of these are optional equipment. Analog-only linking probably wouldn't require these, though.

If the Quantars to be linked were not in the same room, you would probably have to use the Astro modems, since V.24 is only good for short distances.

In fact, you can use the channel scan feature in the Quantars to rig up a "selective linking" operation. You can have one PL or NAC used for local in-cabinet repeat, ad have a second PL or NAC for linked operation. It worked pretty well, even in mixed mode.

I should also mention on the linked systems I've worked with, none have had any type of wireline control (i.e. for a dispatch console). I'm sure this would complicate matters some...

I could dig up my notes and get you some more specifics if you want. Drop me a private message or something...

Happy new year!
