OK- This should be a simple question, but I'm not entirely sure of the answer.

A flashcode of 000001-000000-9 shows only the H35 Conventional Operation option.

If a flash code does not specify either the IMBE / CAI or "Astro Ready" option, can one assume that the radio is IMBE capable by default, or is it going to be analog by default?

if it does not start with a "1" then it's not digital at all... it's astro-ready.

It was on an eBay wonder, specifically this one:

There were enough things about the auction, and the seller's feedback to keep my checkbook in my pocket, but the thought of an AS1 (with an encryption module) was tempting, given that 32 conventional channels with CAI would be enough for my (current) needs.

It actually depends more on the firmware, than flashcode.

You could have Flashcode 100001-800000-1,
according to the secret decoder ring:
Q806/G806 IMBE / APCO-25 Digital Operation
H35/G48 Conventional Operation
H29 Single key Software Encryption Option

This is misleading IF the firmware won't support it.
Examples:
The Above flashcode in:
Host / DSP

3.00.00 / I3.04.03 = The flashcode is false because the DSP firmware only supports VSELP

4.00.00 / I6.01.00 = The Flashcode is valid, as the DSP firmware allows IMBE

7.13.00 / A8.02.08 = The flashcode is invalid. The DSP firmware MUST be I or N for any digital to work. A or M is "analog only"

As for upgrades:
If the DSP firmware is late enough AND is either N or I, then you can smash an IMBE codeplug in and it will work just fine.

If the DSP firmware is too old OR shows an M or A, you cannot do IMBE until the firmware is updated. No codeplug squishing will "update" firmware.... sorry.
