HT750 Asia Radio?

A friend of mine brought a radio to me at work tonight, LONG story on how he got it, but here's the deal.
It looks like a run of the mill HT750 no keypad-VHF.
BUT... the sticker on the back has the "For Asia Pacific Only" on it.
I look at the model # and the only difference I can make out is that the bandsplit is 146-178
Everything else seems just like the "regular" HT750s we have here.
Am I missing something?
Will this program with good ol'e English CPS?
Do I (does he) need to worry about using an "illegal" radio?
TIA

Is there an FCC type acceptance sticker on it anywhere?
IIRC there is a different version of the CPS for Asia pacific radios. Someone will probably confirm or correct that though, I just remember reading somewhere that there is a different CPS.

There is a different version of the CPS that you will have to use.

What are the two letters before the H25? AA means it's an HT750 for use in the US, AZ means asia-pac and it's really a GP328.

Well, it's got the AZ, and between that, the "Circle-2 Year Warranty" statement, and the actual wording about Asia, I knew it was. OK, so I won't even attempt to read/write it.
Why does it have an HT750 label on it?
What could I (he) possibly do with it then? Paperweight? Doorstop? Rape Alarm (the panic button is programmed...)

Those labels are 20cents each
Try reading it to see if someone's changed the region code, but maybe don't write it for now.
Other than that, you can send it over to me and I'll check it out for you (and maybe buy it if you've got no futher use for it).

No you will not 'harm' the radio, it just won't work. You'll need to do the newly discovered mod:

Save it for your next visit to Asia? Or put it on Ebay, and see if someone down there, or going down there, is interested in it? That's assuming the "long story" does not include the word larceny anywhere in it. I would never suggest that someone try to sell pilfered radios on Ebay. (Unless that was going to be what got them caught)

Dont get rid of it. If it is a truly asian radio, the mod that has been posted in the other thread should allow you to program that radio. That mod supposedly allows the any market version to be read with a US CPS.

All-
I'm gonna try the registry mod.
No "larceny" is not a part of the equation, if it were, the post would never have been made, and I would not be trying to help this guy out...
And I don't really condone "dumping" stuff on ebay. That hurts us ALL.
Thanks everyone!
