Flashing XTS2500/5000 radios...USB?

Post by wavetar »

I know for sure at one time you could only use the ribless serial cable for flashing these radios, but I recall someone posting you could use the USB cable as of Astro25 CPS 3.xx. Could someone here who has physically done it verify this for me? We are bidding on flashing/programming several hundred 2500's & need to know if we need a second serial cable, or if we can get by using 1 serial & 1 USB. I have reviewed the CPS 4.0 help tutorials & while they are full of useful information, it doesn't specifically say whether you can use both or not. Compounding the confusion is the fact it shows in one video example choosing between COM1 & USB, but in another choosing between COM1 & COM2...help!

Yes, USB works perfectly fine since CPS 3.0 or higher. I've flashed a lot of 5000's and 5 2500's. I think I've done over 30 5000's with the USB cable.

BTW, the flash was a firmware refresh, not a feature upgrade.

Thanks for the confirmation George. This particular project will be a mixture of firmware updates & feature upgrades. There will also be MCS/MTS flashing too. I'm looking forward to it!
