Magnetic radio "clip"?

Hello.

I came aross name badges that have tiny magnets on a bar.
The little bar holds the badge on your clothing, bar on inside, badge on outside.
So, I got 4 bars together, just to see if it could hold a talkie.
I mounted them inside an HT220s battey box door.
I can place the HT220 on the side of an automobile door, it will easily hold at 60+MPH.
The questions are.
Can the strong magnets harm a talkie?
Is there a product out that already works like this for talkies?

they make a product which holds cell phones to car dashes.
Some of them, like the nokia 5100 and 6100 series, the magnet attatches direct to the battery. Others, include a plate that you glue onto the back of the phone.

I've seen a chief i know use it with the plate on the back of a vertex vx400, but thats a small radio

I wish I would have seen this.

This would eliminate the need for a speaker/mic. Cowthief can just mag-mount the whole radio to his head.

Even if magnets would/could hold a talkie to the outside of a car -

Why would you?

Who cares?

i *think* he meant the INSIDE of the car door.

mounting your talkie on the outside isnt.. umm.

we wont mention me blasting down desert roads, at like 50 mph, then finally pulling over wondering wtf is rattling around on my roof.
Damn ht600.

I guess I can see the use, just having to pull the radio off and then slap it back on. You would have a steel ( or what ever metal) plate on your belt and the mags on the radio. I guess that would work. Your radio will pick up a lot of :o though, things like little metal bits, keys etc. That could be a :o.

he said "on the side"

I took it to mean on the INSIDE side... I would think most people have the common sense not to mount it on the outside.

Well...

Side.

Hello.

I was thinking how funny it would look, an HT220 on the outside of a car door, going down the road
Actually, it was the inside.
This is more of a problem, as the plastic trim "hides" the steel somewhat.
The idea is to perhaps have a way to pull the magnets away from the outside of the radio, or electromagnet(s) that counter the pull for a second or so.
This would allow the radio to "stick" to whatever steel surface were around, and allow easy, quick, removal.
And, yes, there are dainty cell-'phone holders, but nothing like what I am thinking about.

I would think that using a magnetic mount on your belt (or certain other areas) would REALLY wreak havoc on one's credit cards, floppies, etc.

I could see a use for having a portable mounted on the outside of a car--
just not moving (altho its good to know it'll hold at 60 if you forget it!)

When Cow stated that it held on the vehicle at 60+ miles an hour, I assumed he attempted to test it outside the vehicle also.

My question is - "If you have magnets that are strong enough to hold a radio to the vehicle, and not slowly ride down the surface, wouldnt they damage the radio itself, or atleast screw with its reception???

If it holds to your waist so strong to not get knocked loose, how in the hell are you going to release it to actually use the radio????

speaker mic?

Release.

Hello.

The idea of a release is easy enough.
As I had posted before, a coil forming an electromagnet can be used to counter the PM.
This would work well in a talkie, as long as the battery had some charge.
So far, people who use the magnetic badges have had no problems.
The badges have been in use for 2 years+ years.

Other than erasing their hotel room keys, and credit cards...

Cowthief, if we are talking about the same thing, they have been around for many more years then two. The big different I see is that the badges have much less holding power and have no need for an electromagnet release(or the ones I have used don't).

I guess I can kind of see where your trying to go with this though. Build the mag into the radio and have one of the buttons on the radio act as a way to release the radio.
