BUILDING ASTRO SPECTRA

has anyone ever built an astro spectra from a plain old spectra ? and if so what is needed to build one... thanks

just a guess, but i think the only thing that is similar is the physical housing. all the guts/circutry/pa and such are different.

You need to change the following.....
RF board
Command board
Vocoder
The rest is the same.

SG, so is the display the same? I have seen astro displays on ebay, they claim they will not work with non-astro spectra's.

The Astro control heads I believe are basically electrically the same. It's the control head firmware differences that won't allow an analog control head to work on an Astro control head.

The Astro Spectra I have basically has a Astro portable in it hooked to the PA and antenna ports.

I have converted a Astro Spectra from lo split to regular split, 450-470 ,with spectra parts. It works just fine. Also, the control head to controller board interface board is different in Astro series than the Spectra series.
