As of now, the XTL are basically the same as the Astro Spectra. The AS was introduced around 1994? so its getting close to its retirement age. The XTL is going to replace the the Astro Spectra. In addition to the same basic features, it will support 9600bps trunking (which is why they released the Astro Spectra Plus..its just a place holder), IP addressing, text messaging and a whole bunch of IMBE APCO25/ASTRO25 trunking toys.

On the conventional end, not too much is going on. The control heads currently are the same style of as the AStro spectra, and in a year there will be more advanced head available.

Currently, there isn't much of a price difference between the XTL and Spectra. This seems to be a common tactic with radio lines that are going to disapear. They did the same thing with the Astro Saber...where the old stuff is the same price as the new..so what are you going to by? A product thats getting phased out or the new one? Not a hard choice!
