HI:

I have some information that may ( or may not ) be
of help to some.

Here is the Scoop:

Although the Motorola Book shows the RKN4035D Cable
to be compatable with the XTS 2500 / XTS 3000 / XTS 3500
XTS 5000, the Book is incorect when it comes to addressing
the XTS5000

Fact:

The only 2 Programming Cables that can be used with the
XTS 5000 is the RKN4105A and the RKN4106A Ribless Cables
( Period )

Reason:

THere is a Speed Protocall issue between the Radio and the
Computer that needs to be addressed.

Reagrding the XTS3000 & XTS 3500

Fact:

The RKN4035D is fully compatable with both radio
series.

For users with XP Professional

There has been a problem found ( which is not on the Home
Edition ) that when the Radio Servcie Software is booted up
one has a tag that says [ Look for Wheel ] This will interfere
with the COM Port 1 Seetings.

Its also shows up with Erratic Mouse Movemnets, and one
has to disable the Wheel Function, otherwise XP will try and
take over the COM 1 settings.

==========================================

I had a nice Long Talk with a Veteren Motorola XTS Professional
and has clued me in on alot of things I have never encountered
with the Astro Plus, XLT5000, CM200's, 300's.

==========================================

Fact: Smart Rib Issues A, B, C, D Series.

Only reason the D Series Smart Rib evolved was to address the
Astro-25 Functions in higher tier radios

==========================================

Anyhow, hope some of the above issues will help
address the Book vs Person vs Department comments
on this.

==========================================

If you have a Spacific Issue related to any of the above,
let me know, and I will try and pass the message along
for a suitable answer.

Thanks Monty,

This is exactly the problem that I have been experiencing with XP pro, the mouse is very unstable and I have random read write issues.

Thanks for the info, Monty. I wasn't aware the literature for the 2500/5000 series said the Jedi programming cable would work, but can certainly vouch for the fact it doesn't.

I also wanted to point out the reason you need a 'D' version SmartRIB for the Astro radios really has nothing to do with 'higher functions'. It's because all digital radios have a DSP, which gets flashed along with the usual 'HOST' firmware IC. This of course requires more memory space than the older A/B/C version SmartRIB's (2-Meg vs 1-Meg). 2500/5000 series of course don't require the SmartRIB at all.
