Help in adding a DES module to a AS

Hi all,

I have one of Nick’s famous UHF Astro Saber 3’s that so far has worked flawlessly for me. Recently, I received a NTN8967A - DES-XL/DES-OFB Project-25 encryption module that came out of a working Astro Spectra. When I installed it into my AS the radio fails to power up. The top green LED will illuminate and that’s about all it will do. When I remove the module the radio will then power up as usual and work fine. What’s going on. I was under the impression that all I had to do was install the DES module, reprogram the radio and turn on the secure features and load code.

Any help or ideas would be helpful.

Sounds like a bad module or its not seated properly. You are correct though...add module and reprogram as secure.

I would also double check all the connectors as well...its possible that one of them may have come loose and not making all the connections...it happened to me once.

My Astro Saber has a firmware version of R 07.09.02 and a DSP of: N08.02.04

So I don't think that it's a firmware problem and I know that the moduel was working before I removed it from the Spectra.

If the radio is not reassembled exactly correct this will happen.
Either one of the little molex(like) plugs are not fully seated or one of the shields are out of alignment.
Carefully try it again...it happens all the time.

Dump the radio on eBay "As Is," with no returns.
