xts3000 repair question

guys
My buddy has an xts3000 modIII with a bad concentric switch and an intermittent chanel selector knob. I have never worked on one of these and i was wondering if i had a Mod 1 case would the chanel knob/concentric switch /flex from that case be put into a mod III without any hardship. The guy he got the radio from has mod1 case he would send me asap to get it up and running, but we would have to wait for a lil bit for a mod3 case.
How hard are these radios compares to say a jedi series ht/mt to work on? I have heard members here say that there are tiny clips that go popping and flying inside an xts when you open one up
are they that bad to work on? I can get my hands on a service manual but would appreciate an opinion from some of you who open these radios on a regular basis.
