Why is the FDNY using Analog if they have xts 3500 digital radios? I have heard that there was some sort of problem with their radios and that is why M discontinued the xts3500/

Actually they are using a hybrid. Digital PTT ID at the beginning and end of transmission and analog audio.

The main reason for analog audio? 24 or more guys at a fire ground location all with radios, all on the same frequency.

Mutiple people talking at the same time. With analog your hear hetrodyne (you know two or more people are talking at the same time). With digital you would hear NOTHING. For their particular application it is easier to use analog then retrain all the firefighters to listen before talking.

The 3500's features have been incorporated into the XTS5000's.
