Hi,

I am kinda new to the Spectra radio. I recently purchased a 100 watt trunk mount VHF radio with an A7 control head. The cable that came with the radio had a DB25 male connector on one end and a rectangular pulg on the other where it attached to the control head. Coming from the control head there is a short pig tail that ends in a DB15 connector.

I read a lot of the stuff here on Batlabs and also Mike's page.

I was just able to get a power cord in the last few days. I connected the radio to the control head and tried to power the radio. Nothing happened. I tried connecting the DB25 to both jacks on the drawer but nothing happened.

I am guessing from what I read that the speaker audio would come from the DB15. Is there something that needs to be jumpered to make the radio come alive???

Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

On the DB15 connector in addition to the speaker there is also an ignition sense B+ needed to power up the radio. If the pinout isn't on the Batlabs
model specific info. section let me know and I'll get it from my radio.

You should be able to program "ignition sense" to OFF in the radio-wide screen (I believe) and make it ignore that 12v lead.


Someone here can confirm that.

You can program IGN SENSE in the later radios/heads, it is a jumper or two in the earlier heads.

Don't forget that you need to have +12 volts and ground connected on the high current power cable to the radio. Some people get caught with just trying to apply power to the DB15 connector. With the ignition sense you need both points to have power.

You've got way too many posts goig on here- if you keep it all on 1 post it helps us review what you've got and treyed so you don't keep getting the same suggestions on different posts.

Judging from what you've posted here, you may have a faulty remote cable- I've had trouble getting that style cable to work on a high power unit before. Your best bet is to get a HKN4356B remote cable that hasn't been cut/spliced and see what you've got from there.
