I was walking in down town Melbourne and went past the police station and there was a cop with a SABER III?? That's the only saber i've ever seen being used by the polise. They usually use MTS-2000 or XTS radios. Have sabers just been relesed to Australia? Or are they just apart of a fasing out? Does anyone know how long the saber has been around?

The orignal Saber was introduced 1988ish..give or take a year or two. The Astro Saber line came out around 1994. The Saber has been discontiued for some time and the Astro Saber line was discon about 6 months or so ago.

The vic cops had sabres (1988) long before they got the MTS2000's. They went to the MTS when the saber could no longer be supplied.

By the way
They still have some MX300s radios

As stated by others, the Sabers have been in use for a long time. The Special Operations Group (SOG) have been using Astro Sabers for the past 4 or 5 years that I know of.

The XTS radios have been in use now for about 2 1/2 years with the MTS2000's being used when Saber parts became harder to get (read more expensive here in OZ)

Will be interesting what they choose to use in place of the MCX100's once the new Astro System goes live..... Waiting, Watching... Hoping....

Cheers

Probably UHF XTL5000s, and/or ex-SORN Astro Digital Spectras, as they are still a dime a dozen.

Anyone have word on when UHF XTL5000s will be avaliable?
