Hello, a friend of mine has had a XTS3000 MDL 3 for some time. It's the only way to monitor the big town police! I have been wanting to get one ever since I heard his. Now I have a chance to get a UHF high split MDL 1. The price is good, BUT, I want a MDL 2, or 3. I have hacked a few MTX, and MTS 2000's in my time. I have read, and it sounds like I can read the S-record out of my friends unit, and dump it into mine. I know it will need to be retuned, but I'm not going to do any TX with this radio anyway. First off, will MTSX Lab work for the codeplug? (I have a friend who has this, not me!!!)

Second, the parts. What all will I need for the front housing and dispaly? Can I reuse the top controls, and just get a new case and LCD? I know it's not just that easy, but I know this is a good place to ask. Does anyone have the part number of the LCD, keypad, keyboard, and housing. Any idea on LIST cost. I can get the parts at the local MSS shop that works on my dept's radios. They are glad to sell me the parts if I can give them Moto numbers, but they will not even let me look at a service manual. I did talk to one of the techs, but as soon as I said "hack" he went off about some guy named Dick.

Anyway, I need to find out about the parts, and cost before I get the radio. I don't want a radio without a dispaly!!!

THANKS TO ALL!!!!!! You guys are great for us "non-techs".

It's not the only thing that can monitor the big city cops. If you're out in Rancho Cucaracha (ermm.. Cucamunga) you can listen to both LAPD and the Orange county TRS (Fire at least) with a digital capable scanner. If your friend is monitoring the OCTRS police then I wanna ask him a few questions, I've wanted to listen to them myself :P
