Using a Visar VHF antenna on a Jedi series raido.

Is anyone aware of problems with killing the PA in a Jedi series VHF portable due to high VSWR when using the Visar VHF 5" helical antenna part # 8505834W01 or 8505834W02, either on the radio or a public safety mic.

Thanks

It is totally okay to use.

Locally, Barrie Fire Department use the Jedi antenna on their radios, as does the Niagara Regional Police. I've got one on mine, and I notice almost zero degredation in performance.

What you talking about Willis?

He was asking about using a visar antenna on a jedi.

You responded that Barrie fire uses Jedi antennas on their portables and they work fine.

Of course they would. Barrie fire uses xts3000's as does Niagara Regional.

Did you mean to say that they use Visar antennas on their portables?

Although the Visar antenna can be used, Barrie fire uses the stock antenna that came with their radios. They have not substituted Visar antennas.

HT1000,MT2000,MTS2000,JT1000 and VISAR use the same RF-deck,
the only different in the Visar RF is the antenna contact,
so WHY NOT! :D :D :D

Err...sorry, my bad.

I meant to say that Barrie Fire and Niagara Regional Police use the VHF Visar antennas on their XTS3000/3500 portables.

No, Barrie Fire doesn't use the stock antenna, they are indeed a Visar antenna, either that or there's a "stock" XTS series antenna that is 100% identical in size shape and "dot" colour as the Visar antenna.

But to answer the original question - you won't have any issues using a Visar antenna on any Jedi series radio, just make sure you get the right band-split.

The antenna is fine, but keep away from them as you will have a range reduction.
