Hey everyone, I have no problem programming my sm50's and 120's but I have no luck with my high power UHF Spectra's.
I have a 1 Ghz. Athlon HP. Some people say my computer is too fast. If this is so, can anyone recommend a proper computer for Spectra programming? Isn't there a way to slow down one's computer.

Regards and thanks in advance,

John

Do search on "programming" - there have been volumes written on the subject, particularly about the slow computers needed.

There is a demo program that slows down your CPU that your get off the web and the demo version last about 20 min the name of it is.......... CPU Killer.... I use it and it works great just enough time to program a radio.... let me know if you have any problems finding it.

Ummmm, maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't trust that method. I would get a slow computer dedicated to just programming radios. That way, you would be sure...

YMMV, but they're your radios.

I use an old 386 laptop. You might be able to pick one up in a junk pile at a consignment shop (all you need to do is run dos), but you might be better off looking at yard sales...

A progam that last only 20 min. My luck I would be in the middle of loading a code plug. Just buy a cheap old computer, you can get what you need for $10.

No All you have to do is see how much time you have left then restart the program before you upload the codeplug.... Dahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh..... the reason I have it is when My tech has the computer with him,,,, My desktop at the shop can still program the dos programs with ease...... it works if you know any thing about a computer...... I have a 366mhz labtop and sometimes thats to fast...you have to shut doen to TRUE DOS not programs then shut down to dos.....when you boot up the computer start hiting F8 then Shift F5 to command promt only that is alittle slower then just shutting down to dos.......... wait a sec I have no clue what Im talking about. listen to the others.... that want you to Buy aslower computer for just one program.................. Spectras work best with anything under 150mhz. Your best bet is to watch garage sales and auctions for old computers which you can score for around $5-10. reformat the hard drive to wipe out the operating system, and have it loaded with just DOS. If you find 1 with windows 3.1 or 95, they'll usually work ok, but WIN2000, XP, and NT don't have a dedicated DOS and won't communicate properly.
