Ok, got my hands on a XTS5000. I have been tring to read the radio using Astro 9. I keep getting a 'time-out' error in the read process. Any ideas?

As Jay stated you need the XTS2500/5000 CPS. Current version is RVN-4181M.

Also you need the ribless programming cable.

The USB cable is RKN-4105 and the serial cable is RKN-4106.

Thanks for the input fellas,

I was unaware that there is CPS software JUST for the XTS5000. I will have to obtain that. :-?

I was looking at the Batlabs website information on the XTS series, and I was under the impression that the HT/JT1000 cable can be used to program these radios. (I have a HT/JT1000 cable and a SmartRIB.) If I have to go with the RIBless cable, what are the chances of building one? I'm assuming it is nothing more then a basic serial cable, with a Jedi series speaker/mic connector at the end, with the pins moved to the correct contacts, right? Does anyone know the pinout for this cable? (Or is it more complicated then that? Is there some sort of IC in the cable-end or something? ) Worst case: I see they are selling them (the cables) on EBay for $100 - $140.

the factory cable has some sort of module in the center of the cable. I do not know what it contains.

The newer Astro XTS5000 shares the same CPS as the XTS2500. The latest version of this CPS is R04.01.00. There is no dos-based RSS for the XTS2500/5000 series.

What you meant earlier by reading using dos-based RSS R09.xx.xx is for the older Astro models, such as the XTS3000 or Astro Saber only.

The module in the RS232 version of the cable contains active circuitry comprised of an RS232 interface chip and a voltage converter.

The RS232 version is part number: RKN4106 and costs $238.50

There is also a USB version, RKN4105, $225.00.

Can you continue to use your Jedi cable and RIB, or are you forced to the RIBless cable?

The Jedi cable and Rib can only be used for Jedi and XTS3000. The XTS2500/XTS5000 uses totally different bus protocol and the Jedi cable and Rib cannot read/write to it.

You must use only the ribless cable for programming XTS2500/XTS5000 series. There are two types, one is using the RS232 com port interface and another is using the USB interface.
